Ceribell: Medical Notification System Research & Design

During my 6-month internship at Ceribell, I participated in designing operational manuals, conference booths, and conducted multiple rounds of user interviews and usability tests, many of which I cannot share in detail.
For this project, I contributed to designing the medical notification system to improve communication in healthcare institutions, resulting in a user satisfaction score of 8.4 in the pilot version.

Challenge

Ceribell offers a multichannel seizure diagnosis solution set, including detection hardware, AI algorithms, and a medical portal for EEG reading and reporting. Since seizures have a short duration and require immediate attention, the medical portal must facilitate timely communication between the bedside team and neurologists.

However, the working schedules and affiliations of neurologists vary significantly, leading to different notification preferences. This underscores the importance of flexibility and customization in design.

Outcome

We designed a notification system that allows customization of notification types, active times, and corresponding healthcare institutions. We then interviewed four neurologists for iterative feedback.

The final version of the notification system received a user satisfaction score of 8.4 in the pilot version.

Design Solution: Weekly & Monthly Shifts

We created both weekly and monthly shift options to accommodate users' needs.

They can create shifts and set active time slots based on their schedules.

Design Solution: Link Shifts to Notification Types and Organizations

Based on the shifts they set, users can modify the events for which they want to receive notifications.

Approach

Iteration Based on Feedback

Due to the demand for flexibility and customization, the interface design inevitably becomes complex.

To address the challenge that users might get lost or confused with the notification settings, we created several versions of the interface and interviewed four neurologists to determine which one is the most intuitive and straightforward.

We iterated the design based on the insights and launched a pilot at three institutions. From the pilot, we received a user satisfaction score of 8.4 when neurologists were asked to use the provided scale to rate the product we reviewed.
